Random downgrade of Expo SDK

Please provide the following:

  1. SDK Version: 38
  2. Platforms(Android/iOS/web/all): Android/iOS

I updated my app sdk version more than a month ago, from 37 to 38. Today, while doing some updates (I installed some packages - expo-localization and i18n-js - and followed the steps on the Localization guide), some warnings and errors started showing up, and I was surprised do see that they were because the sdk version was downgraded to 37.

I deleted the node modules folder and reinstaled everything, and it is working fine now, but why would that happen?
