In app.json there is an option for notification.androidMode - either “collapse” or “default”.
However, using or setting the default still results in android collapsing notifications at 4+ items.

The Android OS will automatically collapse notifications at some point, so there’s nothing we can do about that. In “collapse” mode you have more control over what it looks like when it’s collapsed and you could also set it to collapse after only 2 notifications for example.

Is it possible to set it collapse at a larger number, say 10 ?
Not as far as I know. I think that’s just an Android OS limit.
