Android: Volume not working properly: App set to "In-Call" automatically

Our app is defaulting to “In-call” volume when in use. I have all volume controls (media, system, etc) on full blast, so using the phone is quite noisy with the loud system clicks. Once I load the app from Expo, the volume drops dramatically and the clicks become almost silent. This is an issue because our app allows users to watch videos and they’re inaudible. Previous versions of the app work as expected, this is a new issue that just popped up and only affects Android devices (galaxy s7 for example) and we’re running sdkVersion 32.0.0.

Did something change with the audio settings between SDK 28 and 32?
